1790 Census of Kentucky. By: Charles B. Heinemann, Orig. Pub. 1938, Revised Reprint 1992, 188 pages, Index, Hard Cover, ISBN #0-89308-479-4.

In 1790 the present Commonwealth of Kentucky was part of Virginia, although a movement was underway to form a separate state. This resulted in the creation of the Territory of Kentucky in July 1790, and Kentucky was formally admitted to the Union in 1792. The census was to begin in August 1790, and when it was completed the returns were sent to Washington. During the War of 1812, the census of Kentucky was destroyed. The material this (reconstructed) census is based on are the personal property tax lists in the Kentucky Hysteric l Society. The tax lists used in compiling this book were: Bourbon 1790, Fayette 1787, 1788 and 1789, Jefferson 1789, Lincoln 1790, Madison 1789, Mason 1790, Mercer 1789, Nelson 1792, and Woodford 1790. This book contains the names of approximately 9,500 persons found in these tax lists.  This book was originally mimeographed on cheap paper in 8 1/2" x 11" page size in 1938. Later reprints combined two 8 1/2" x 11" pages onto one 6" x 9" page. We have had this manuscript retyped to fit a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" page so that the names are larger and more legible to the READER.

Certificate Book of the Virginia Land Commission, 1779-1780, The Register for 1923. By: KY Historical Society, Orig. Pub. 1923, Reprinted 1981, 1992, 344 pages, Index, Hard Cover, ISBN #0-89308-207-4.

The original records of Kentucky County, Virginia, 1776-1780, were lost in a fire in the 19th century which makes this book quite important because it contains the names of most of the pioneer settlers of the state of Kentucky. The Certificate Book comprises most of Vol. 21 (1923) of the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society and gives information about the claims for land made by settlers between 1775 and 1779 who detailed the location of their claim and the date of settlement.

Revolutionary Soldiers in Kentucky, Also a Roster of the Virginia Navy. By: Anderson Chanault Quisenbury, Orig. Pub. 1896, Reprinted 1992, 248 pages, New Index, Hard Cover, ISBN #0-89308-487-6.

This volume contains a roll of the officers of the Virginia Line who received Land Bounty Grants; a roll of the revolutionary Pensioners in Kentucky; a list of the Illinois Regiment who served under General George Rogers Clark in N.W. Campaign. Found in this book are those citizens of Kentucky who were granted Revolutionary Pensions to the year 1835 as registered by the Secretary of War. To this list has been appended a list of names of many persons to whom the state of Virginia granted lands on account of Revolutionary services; and also rolls of the soldiers of General George Rogers Clark's "Illinois Regiment" nearly all of whom settled in Kentucky; and of the Virginia Revolutionary Navy, many of whom also settled there and other descendants of whom are living in the state. The Revolutionary War pensions in Kentucky numbered about 3,000. Some names, but not many (except widows), were added to the list before 1835. Some of the additional names are preserved in Collins' HISTORY of KENTUCKY, in two volumes, which contains a list of nearly 900 who were still living in the state in 1840.
